Review: Frost/Nixon

There Will Be Blood had milkshakes, Frost/Nixon has cheeseburgers - does that mean one of next year's Oscar noms will come with fries?

Review: Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa

The penguins were great, but I don't get how you cast the comedic talents of Alec Baldwin and the late Bernie Mac and not give them any jokes to work with.

Edinburgh 09 on Twitter

Heavy snow, haggis, running into an anti-Israel protest and nearly being eaten by a lion.

All in all, a pretty eventful and enjoyable trip.

Remember to Say Hello!

I'm off to Edinburgh for a few days, so here's a few webcams of the city centre that I may pop up on.

Just remember to not confuse me with the tramps. Its easily done.

Review: Bolt

Great kids film, focusing on a simple, fun story and not trying to cram in too many celeb voices or clever in-jokes for adults.

Potential Acts for V Festival 2009?

In between the usual spam from seetickets I get at least twice a week, there was an email link for a chance to win camping tickets to V2009.

Sensing a chance to avoid forking out what will be closer to £200 this year - I clicked on the link which threw up some interesting ideas as to what to expect from V this year (bonus points for noting the potential for a 3-day V mentioned right at the bottom).

In surveying what the customers want from V this year, including the likes of Take That, Robbie and Kylie in the potential headliners, it seems the organisers are considering at least one poppy act in the double bill of act they usual have heading up the main stage. I just hope my requests for Dinosaur Pile-Up, Gaslight Anthem and Frank Turner don't fall on deaf ears and we get some rock.

I could cope with Katy Perry though ;)

Borders Go Easy on the Latte

Borders has finally entered the world of online retail - surely the website should have a little starbucks in the corner though, like the stores?

Is The Credit Crunch That Bad?

Go to www.approvedfood.co.uk for the authentic taste of the credit crunch - or that may just be the out of date biscuits going a bit stale.

Get Me The Daily Mail!

Look at the time of this tweet from Jonathan Ross' Twitter page discussing the next timelord several hours before the announcement - I'm surprised the Daily Mail hasn't called for him to be hung for ruining the national institution that is Doctor Who.

The Day Pro Evo Died

Today I sold my copy of Pro Evo 2009 on ebay. I'd only played it twice.

There was a time was when I would get each yearly update on day of release (and often before thanks to the Choices massive) and it wouldn't leave my PS2 for pretty much the year round till the next one came out. For my mind Pro Evolution Soccer 5 and a Max Drive update to get round those pesky licensing issues equalled the greatest sports game released ever on any console.

Part of the problem lies there, as aside for the odd graphical spruce up here and there, the game hasn't changed at all at all, making the flaws all the more apparent year after year.

Now with Pro Evo 2009 on the 360, the gaudy menus and awful music which I used to forgive now started to annoy, plus the sound that I can only compare to a bomb going off when a player made any pass made my blood boil. Also not being able to edit the kits with risky fudging up my 360 didn't help - it may have been part of the charm of Sensible Soccer, but on tent pole releases like Pro Evo, its just shoddy and takes away from the immersive experience.

If this was a one off I could convince myself it will be okay again and wait for next years release, but this has happened for 4 years now and I've been paying £30 quid for pretty much the same game each year. Perhaps next year's should have Ashley Cole on the cover, if Konami are going to keep cheating us like this.

Review: The Wrestler

Any film starring the Necro Butcher get 5 stars. End of story.

Actually the film itself is probably close to four stars but Rourke's performance is more than deserving of all the Oscar hype, as he's so believable as Randy the Ram you'd be forgiven to think you're watching excerpts from Beyond The Mat at times.
